Hello World,
In our previous post, we have been providing a little script that can help people to ease the process of changing the background image visible at the login screen. The script has been updated and provide a little bit more features but still has some limitations. We had fun creating and updating the script. However, there is a tool that can perform the same action. The tool is called “Loginized” and provides an interesting GUI interface where you can change the login screen picture as well as the lock screen and this on the same screen…
In this post, we simply wanted to describe the process of installing and using the tool. We tried the tool and all in all the process is quite straight forward. So, this might become a handy utility to customize your Ubuntu machine…
Let’s go !

You can download the tool at this location. You have multiple options for download. You can download the source and compile it or you can download the deb files. We have used the deb files. Scrolling down the home page, and you will see the section where deb files are available. Click on the debian package version and the download windows will be displayed. Accept the option to open the deb file using the software install application.

Changing the Shield image
The tool provides the option to modify in the same interface the login background image and the shield image (or lock screen background image). To perform this, open again the Loginized tool and select pictures for the Shield and the login screen. In the screenshot below, we have selected on purpose a different image so we can see the difference in the login process.

Again, when clicking on the Save button, you will be asked to reboot the system. After the reboot, we can see that the login scree and the lock screen are indeed different.

Final Notes
This is it for this post !
The tool is quite interesting and the usage is quite simple. The tool offer the possibility (from a single interface) to modify the lock screen and the login background screen. Our script utility does not go that far as the script only changes the login screen background but does not tackle the shield screen. We will follow up on this nice little utility as we think that this can be really useful when customizing look n feel of Ubuntu is needed.
I hope that you enjoyed reading this post as we had some fun in writing it…..
Till next time
See ya
