I’ve been looking up proxmox ve today and its features seem impressive. There is some confusion in my mind as to what the licensing for it is. On the one hand it appears to be free to use http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Focused_on_the_enterprise_needs and on the other it seems to need an annual subscription http://www.proxmox.com/products/proxmox-ve/subscription-service-plans
I’d like to give it a spin but I’m a bit confused as to whether its a priced product or free to use?

The company behind Proxmox VE software is using a “Support Ware” Business Model. In short, this means that the Proxmox VE software is indeed free to download and free to use. However, If you want/need to, you can purchase support to Proxmox (through the Subscription service plans). You can check this article as well http://www.montanalinux.org/proxmox-ve-martin-interview.html. This was an interview of one of the Founder of the Proxmox company. He mentioned that the software is free to use.
I have to agree with you, the licensing topic is a little bit confusing. 🙂

the RSS feed has been disabled. There was a security issue with this and content protection issue as well. we are not planning to re-enable it this year. We might be working on a new layout web site and then the RSS functionality will be bring back

Normally, Xfce should be supported with xrdp, you should update your .xsession and use this syntax
gnoem-session=xfce4-session
and restart xrdp
Note : I have not test this settings… If this is working, share your findings

I have a HP laptop that has Windows 7 Premium 64 bit as it’s factory install but Windows has finally failed to boot up…so I heard about Ubuntu 14.04 and noticed that I could try it out before I actually installed it.
In trying Ubuntu…I noticed that I need to ask a few things before I install. It does seem to work well and seems more stable and more secure than Windows. Here goes…
1. Does it cost and is there a free version of Ubuntu?
2. Does Ubuntu require a “Product Key” or similar?
3. Which is the more preferred…along-side Windows or a fresh clean and full install?
4. I noticed that any software I know of and use regularly seems to not have admin-permission to be installed and the Guide that comes with it mentions clicking the “lock” that I cannot seem locate…since I was only trying it does it “hide” the lock/unlock icon/option?
5. I use some 3D Chat client software which doesn’t seem to be recognized by Ubuntu and the client software’s publisher doesn’t seem to have a version for Ubuntu users. Is there a way that I can still chat with my social network without having to switch between Ubuntu and windows?
6. I also use Spotify software to connect to Spotify.com as my music player. Spotify.com seems to have 3 or 4 different versions of software to choose from for Ubuntu and seems to recognize Ubuntu as a Linux or a Wine product. Which software version is best for Ubuntu 14.04? After I download, I have the admin permissions issue mentioned in question 4.
Is there a way that Ubuntu 14.04 can be customized and/or configured to be easier and more user-friendly for new users to have a better experience in becoming familiar with Ubuntu?
I seem to need a Ubuntu 14.04 simple step-by-step and easy to use guide and walk-through for dummies.

To quickly answer your questions
1. Ubuntu is free and there is only free version. you can obtain professional support if you paid for it
2. no product key needed
3. depends your needs. If you wanna use only ubuntu. full install. If you think, you might need Windows 7 as operating system for compatiblity reasons or because some applications does not exists for linux, keep both of them…
4. Not clear to me. If you install the operating system, you will need to provide using the sudo command or the lock/unlock button where you will need to enter your credentials. maybe the icon is not available in the live version.. I do not know
5. You might try to find an equivalent capable 3d chat or your can try to use the WINe (a windows emulator) in order to run your windows applications. You might be able to run these windows apps – this is no guarantee
6. Use Spotify preview from the ubuntu center…so you can get the updates
7. If you need to customize UBuntu, I would recommend you to google a bit and you will see a lot of posts about changing stuff in ubuntu

we have blocked the rss functionality.
we had to perform such action because some people were abusively using the content of this web site without mentionning credits…..
The content of this web site is freely available and can be reproduced/reuse elsewhere as long as the credits are maintained…..
We will see if we can turn the rss functionality back….
